Willem Hendrik Gispen, 1926 - 1936

The Gispen metalworking company made a name for itself in the late 1920s with innovative lamps for electric light. The shape, material and light quality fit in with the aesthetics of the ‘Nieuwe Bouwen’ (functionalist) architectural style characterized by glass, steel, geometric volumes and plain façades. In this lamp, the special milk glass provides diffuse yet bright light.
