Stapelmodel (stuurboord) van een driemast schroefstoomschip. Gesloten dek en klein campanjedek. Klippersteven met krul als schegbeeld. Elliptisch hek met lofwerk, schroefraam voor schroeflichttoestel en roer met afgerond roerblad. Het model heeft een schoorsteen. De zeeg is nagenoeg vlak, een reehout. Bijna vlak onderwaterschip met ronde kimmen. Schaal 1:40 (schaal op model).

Explanatory note

  • Het ijzeren schroefstoomschip 4de klasse Suriname werd in 1876-1877 te Amsterdam door de Koninklijke Fabriek voor Stoom- en andere Werktuigen gebouwd. Herdoopt Macasser bij overdracht aan de Indische Militaire Marine, later Makasser. Het schip deed enkel dienst in Oost-Indië, waar het in 1903 uit dienst ging en in 1905 afgekeurd werd; omgebouwd tot munitieschip.

Entry

Wooden ‘bread-and-butter’ style half model of the starboard side of a three-masted screw steamer, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard with rounded edges.

The deck is closed and features a funnel and a small poop. The clipper bow features a decorative, gold-painted scroll as a billethead. The stern is elliptical and decorated with carved leafwork. Below the stern an empty aperture for a screw propeller and a rudder with a rounded blade are indicated. The sheer rises towards both ends. One sheer rail is indicated. The hull is round with a flat bottom. The position of three masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form. The masts and funnel are all raked considerably.

The iron Fourth Rate screw steamer Suriname was built from 1876 to 1877 in Amsterdam at the yard of the Koninklijke Fabriek van Stoom en Andere Werktuigen. Suriname was renamed Macasser (later spelled Makasser) when it was transferred to the Dutch East Indian Military Navy. The ship only served in the Dutch East Indies, after which it was decommissioned in 1903 and converted in 1905 to an ammunition hulk.1A.J.
