Gepolychromeerd stapelmodel (stuurboord) van een driemast schroefstoomschip. Bijna verticale, rechte voorsteven met galjoen en krul als schegbeeld. Elliptisch hek, Mangin-schroef en roer met afgerond roerblad. Het model heeft een schoorsteen. De zeeg is nagenoeg vlak, een reehout. Rondspant. Schaal 1:50 (afgeleid).

Entry

Polychromed wooden ‘bread-and-butter’ style half block model of the starboard side of a three-masted screw steamer, mounted on a rectangular white, wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is closed and painted white. The bow features an almost vertical stem and a beakhead with a decorative scroll as a billethead. The white cathead is decorated with a gold-painted ornament. Below the elliptical stern is an aperture with a four-blade, Mangin-type screw propeller and a round-headed rudder with a rounded blade are indicated. The model has one black funnel protruding from the deck. The sheer is virtually flat. One sheer rail is indicated. The hull is round with a flat-bottom and painted red below the waterline. The position of three masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form. All masts and the funnel rake considerably.

The 3-gun screw steamers Palembang and Sambas, both 42 metres long, were built at the yard of the Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij Fijenoord in Rotterdam from 1873 to 1874. Both were composite built and destined for service in the Dutch East Indies. Palembang took part in the Samalanga expedition in 1877 before being decommissioned in 1887 and sold out of the service in the following year. Sambas also took part in the Samalanga expedition in 1877 and in 1885 it seized the British arms smuggler Canton. The screw steamer was decommissioned and sold out of the service in 1896.1A.J.
