Half Model of a 3-Gun Schooner

Gepolychromeerd beplankt mallenmodel (stuurboord) van een tweemaster. Het dek is gesloten. Het model heeft twee geschutpoorten. Scherp voorsteven, kraanbalk met leeuwenmasker. Elliptisch hek, gesloten, geen zijgalerij, sterk vallende achtersteven; roer met ronde roerkoning (Soetermeer's versie) en afgerond roerblad. Zeeg naar beide einden zeer weinig oplopend, één verzonken barkhout. Gepiekt rondspant, scherp onderwaterschip. Beide masten hellen naar achteren, de boegspriet is opvallend horizontaal. Schaal 1:40 (volgens Obreen).

Entry

Polychromed fully planked half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular white, wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is fully planked on top of frame moulds and painted black. Two recessed gun ports are indicated. The sheer rises slightly at both ends. The wale cannot be distinguished from the planking. The sheer rail is painted gold. The clipper bow features a cathead with a lion’s mask and a knighthead. The stern has a taffrail. Below the stern a round-headed rudder of the Soetermeer type with a rounded blade is indicated. The hull is painted a metallic copper colour. The keel drops slightly towards the stern. The deck is closed and does not have any details. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form. Both masts are raked considerably; the bowsprit is almost horizontal. The mainmast is missing, but its position is still visible.

The scale and inscriptions with dimensions, which probably bore the details of armament and measurements, are missing from the model.

The 3-gun schooner Vos, 27 metres long, was built by Cornelis Jan Glavimans (1796-1857) in Rotterdam from 1843 to 1844 and decommissioned in 1853.1A.J. Vermeulen, De schepen van de Koninklijke Marine en die der gouvernementsmarine 1814-1962, The Hague 1962, p. 35.
