Gepolychromeerd stapelmodel (stuurboord) van een tweemast raderstoomschip. Het model heeft een klippersteven. Elliptisch hek met roer met ronde roerkoning (Amerikaans roer) en afgerond blad. Eén gesloten raderkast in de zijde, twee schoorstenen aan dek. De zeeg loopt naar voren op; het onderwaterschip is een rondspant met vlakke bodem. Schaal 1:50 (schaal op model).

Explanatory note

  • Slechts één hulpschip van de Marine genaamd Soerabaia, een hopperbarge van de Bataafse havenwerken gebouwd in Atjeh in 1844, is teruggevonden in de lijsten. Het modeltype komt echter meer overeen met de serie van ca. 1860-1880.

Entry

Polychromed wooden ‘bread-and-butter’ style half block model of the starboard side of a two-masted paddle steamer, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard that has been painted white.

The white-painted side is closed and features a closed paddle box. The deck is closed and flush with the side. Two black-painted funnels are positioned on deck. The model has a clipper bow. The stern is elliptical. Below the stern a round-headed rudder with a rounded blade is indicated. The sheer rises forward; one sheer rail is indicated. The hull is round with a flat bottom and painted a metallic copper colour below the waterline. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form. Both masts rake considerably.

The teak paddle steamer Soerabaja, 64 metres long, was built at the Navy yard in Sourabaya from 1865 to 1870 and was equipped with the old engines of Merapi (built 1842). Soerabaja served only in the Dutch East Indian Military Navy and from which service the vessel was decommissioned in 1892.1NIMH SDOC Soerabaja.
