Gepolychromeerd mallenmodel (stuurboord) van een driemaster. Opvallend is het grote aantal spantmallen. Geen geschutpoorten of dekken aangegeven. Gewrongen spiegel, geen details van het wulf of het hek, geen zijgalerij; recht roer met vierkante roerkoning. Zeeg voor en achter iets oplopend, één berghout en één reehout. Gepiekt rondspant. Schaal 1:55 (schaal op model).

Explanatory note

  • De korvet van 18 stukken Iris, lang 120 voet, werd in 1802-1803 op de Marinewerf te Amsterdam gebouwd. Zij deed voornamelijk dienst in Oost-Indië, werd in 1816 overgegeven aan de Koloniale Marine en later gesloopt.

Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a three-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard painted black.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. The sheer rises towards both ends. One wale and a sheer rail are indicated, both are painted black. The bow features an empty beakhead and a knighthead. The stern has a round tuck. The model does not have a counter, taffrail or quarter galleries. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The hull is S-bottomed and painted white below the waterline. The position of three masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.

A remarkable feature is the large number of frame moulds used.

The 18-gun sloop of war Iris, 120 feet long, was built at the Navy dockyard in Amsterdam from 1802 to 1803.1J.M. The sloop operated mainly in the Dutch East Indies, was transferred to the Colonial Navy in 1816 and broken up soon after that.2A.J.
