Entry
Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard.
The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. Ten gun ports are indicated by white frames situated on one continuous deck; five are now missing, but traces of them are still visible on the ribbands. The sheer rises towards both ends. One wale and a sheer rail are indicated, both are painted black. The bow features an empty beakhead. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The hull is S-bottomed and painted white below the waterline. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.
The brig Zwaluw, 108 feet long, was built by Pieter Glavimans Jansz (1768-1850) in Rotterdam from 1816 to 1817.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 367.
