Group Portrait of Reservists

F.W. Schmidt, 1904 - 1906

‘In memory of our time in military service’: there were photographers in German barrack cities who specialised in taking individual or group portraits of soldiers. Many such photographs were produced around 1900. Schmidt assembled numerous small photographs into a new, large entity. Typical of such collages is the combination of patriotism, camaraderie, sense of duty, and jollity.
