Gown with a train
anoniem, c. 1808 - c. 1812
To meet the strict requirements set by the court in Paris, a court gown had to be decorated with gold lamé (thin strips of gold). This gown – meant to be worn at the court of Louis Napoleon in the Netherlands – is worked ‘merely’ with gilt brass. The accompanying silk stockings and shoes are also on view in this gallery.
