Gezicht op Batavia, ca. 1650<BR />Hendrick Jacobsz Dubbels 1620 - 1676<BR />Gezicht vanuit zee op Batavia met Nederlandse schepen op de voorgrond. Tussen deze schepen vaart een Chinese jonk. Van de stad zelf zijn het stadhuis te zien met links daarvan de oude Hollandse kerk. De plaats van de bergen op de achtergrond, de sa;lak en gedeh, is gefantaseerd. Misschien heeft Dubbels zijn voorstelling ontleend aan een prent en de werkelijkheid aangepast aan een in zijn ogen fraaiere compositie.
