Most of the implements found on Nova Zembla are carpentry and shipbuilding tools. The (surgeon’s) saw is the exception and was probably used to perform amputations.

    Bijl van ijzer met fragment van de steel. De bijl is opengewerkt met vier kommavormige openingen. Op het huis zijn versierende lijnen ingegroefd. +én zijde is vlak en de andere verdikt. Dit type bijl sluit aan bij het type bijl met inkeping dat in de 15e eeuw is ontstaan en in de 16e eeuw algemeen verspreid was. Men spreekt van een kantvlechtbijl, gebruikt voor houtbewerking.
