Folded Geometric Shapes

Maria van Elk, 1986

In 1986 Maria van Elk folded eight sheets of thin paper into different shapes, each with its own colour. As a result, colour and shape enter into a relationship. It suddenly appears that green makes a more spatial effect than red and a triangle a wider impression than a hexagon. Like Ellsworth Kelly (whose sculptures are now on display in the Rijksmuseum Gardens), Van Elk merges colour and shape
