Fruit Bowl ‘Bean Plant’

Koshida Bizan, c. 1930 - c. 1940

The modernity of the 1920s and 1930s found individual expression all over the world. So too in Japan. The pattern of stylized beans on the edge of this dish evokes the Art Deco style. The geometric configuration of the base recalls the ancient supporting structure of Japanese temple roofs. The red lines emphasize the architectural form.
