Figurines

anonymous, c. 1680 - c. 1720

As examples for these figurines, Delft potters probably relied on traditional Chinese soapstone figurines, which first arrived in Europe in the late 17th century. The figure with the round face may be based on statues of the bodhisattva Guanyin, while the bearded man may have been inspired by figurines of Chinese scholars.
