A crutch for Willem Barentsz?

This crutch was made on Nova Zembla for someone with leg trouble. This may have been Willem Barentsz, who was ill during his last weeks on the island and could barely walk, if at all. He had to be transported by sleigh from the shelter to the sloops.

    Stok of wandelstok met haaks op stok een handvat en aan de onderkant een halfrond pootje (platte kant onder, bolle kant boven). Rondom het handvat is een stukje touw gewikkeld. De stok is waarschijnlijk tijdens de overwintering gemaakt voor een verzwakt lid van de expeditie.
