Tenement Fire in New York

In his heyday as a press photographer, Weegee slept with a police radio near his bed in order not to miss any of the raw scenes at night in the streets of New York. He did not shy away from recording the most dramatic events, such as liquidations, fires, and accidents with his bulky camera and flash bulb. He also photographed the panic of these victims – the children were still in the burning house – from close range.
