Docker near the passenger ship ‘Sweet Life’

Ed van der Elsken, 1959-10 - 1960-05

‘Sweet Life, sweet and sour, sweet and bitter. Who am I to spout about life, love, happiness.’ Van der Elsken himself wrote the text for most of his photo books. In them he described his encounters and impressions in an informal tone. His journey around the world exposed him to people and customs that until then he only knew from books, magazines or newspapers.
