Nyōren Daien, 1785 - 1858

Nyoren’s calligraphy is said to have magical properties. This image depicts the character 竜 (‘dragon’). The caption conveys the mythical animal’s turbulent, energetic nature: ‘It feasts on the waters of the Four Seas. This auspicious creature soars among the heavens with a single purpose: It brings the gift of water to all corners of the world.’
