Sounding Lead

Diepzeelood, bestaande uit een messing cylinder met loden voet, en een telwerk. Het telwerk bestaat uit een kleine tweebladige propellor bovenop die een schroef-zonder-eind binnen in de cylinder aandrijft, waarop een wijzer beweegt achter een kijkglas met ernaast een schaal. Om de propellor zijn twee beschermende beugels aangebracht; de bladen van de propellor vouwen uit zodra het lood in het water zakt, en slaan neer zodra het gelicht wordt.

Entry

This sounding lead consists of a brass cylinder with a lead weight at the base, and a register consisting of a small two-blade propeller at the top that drives a worm screw inside, upon which a pointer moves up, which can be read through a glass in the side by means of the scale next to it. The propeller is mounted between two round braces crossing each other. The blades of the propeller unfold when the lead is dropped, and fold downwards when it is lifted.
