‘Mr Hagbolt Attending Our Class’ Christiaan Andriessen (1775-1846)

Christiaan Andriessen, 1805 - 1808

The German artist Jacob Hagbolt specialized in small wax portrait reliefs. In this depiction from Andriessen’s illustrated diary, these minuscule yet lifelike portraits are being studied with a magnifying glass. Andriessen was highly positive about them, and commented: ‘That’s very nice.’ The space shown here was in the house of Andriessen’s father, Jurriaan.
