Lidded Vase
anonymous, c. 1750 - c. 1780
Only the very wealthy could order vases of such enormous proportions, like this one, from China. They were genuine status symbols and usually produced in pairs to enhance the dramatic effect. On the lid is a lion, which in China brings luck and is a symbol of protection.
