Studies of Metal Objects in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Paris, and Marseille
Germaine Krull (mentioned on object), 1925 - 1928
The idea came to Krull in the port of Rotterdam. Walking amid the ocean steamers, cranes, bridges, and cables, she zoomed in on them and saw something different each time. She was struck by a riveting interplay of lines and silhouettes, and iron everywhere. The subject was novel and powerful, the camera lens always objective. Krull continually changed her vantage point and took dozens of fascinating photographs of solid metal. She discovered beauty in ugliness.
