'De wanhebbelijke liefde', misschien de scène van de weduwnaar Joost bij Lucia, tweede toneel uit het gelijknamige toneelstuk van C.J. van der Lijn. In een interieur maakt een oudere man een jonge vrouw het hof. Op de achtergrond een vogelkooi, een schilderij met een mansportret en een staande horloge.
