Baijnath Temple Courtyard

Samuel Bourne (signed by artist), 1862 - 1864

On his journey through Kashmir, Bourne also crossed present-day Himachal Pradesh, a mountainous state. An important monument there is the temple of Baijnath, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The deity’s mount Nandi (a bull) can be seen here in the small altar surrounded by pillars.
