Willem Troost (II), 1834 - 1836
Buitenzorg Palace (Bogor), about 60 kilometres from Jakarta, was built in the mid-18th century as a country estate for the then governor-general. In the 19th century the palace became the permanent residence of the governor-general and the symbol of the colonial power, against which Javanese led by Diepo Negoro rebelled during the Java War (1825-1830). Nowadays it serves as the presidential palace of the Republic of Indonesia.
