Christ and the Adulteress

Diana Scultori (mentioned on object), 1575

A year after Diana Mantuana’s death, this print was republished by Antonio Caravano. Although her name was already noted twice in the print – in the signature and in the dedication to the Duchess of Mantua at the lower right – the publisher took the trouble to mention the artist’s name once more. This may have been a tribute to the printmaker, who was even admired by the artists’ biographer Vasari.
