Casanova and the Duke of Matalone Looking at Erotic Art with Leonilde

This print is an illustration for a German edition of the memoirs of the infamous seducer Casanova. In Naples, he studied erotic art with the Duke of Matalone and the latter’s mistress Leonilde. Casanova fell in love with her, unaware that she was his daughter. The incestuous twist was reason for delaying the publication and providing it with commentary.

    In een achttiende-eeuws interieur zitten twee mannen en een vrouw met ontblote borsten op een bank. Ze bespreken een erotisch schilderij dat op een ezel staat. Aan de wanden hangen nog meer erotische werken, naast hen staat een tafel met een koffie- of theeservies. Scène uit het leven van Casanova. Rechtsboven genummerd: 44 en midden onder: Tome VII Chap. 6.
