Bust of Jacob Willemsen

anonymous, 1774

Joannes de Mol had this portrait of his teacher Willemsen made in the German city of Schretzheim, after an engraving by Reinier Vinkeles. He did this with a specific goal in mind, namely to test the skills of the porcelain worker who was seeking employment at the Loosdrecht factory.

    Borstbeeld op voetstuk van porselein in biscuit. Het beeld toont Jacob Willemsen (1698-?). Op het voetstuk een medaillon onder een guirlande met het opschrift 'JAC. WILLEMSEN, PROF & PRED. TE MIDDELBORG GEB. 22 JULY 1698'. Hieronder een band met rozetten. Het voetstuk loopt onder de sokkel door in een rotsgrond, waarop een boek ligt met het opschrift 'PSALM 84.V.6' en een putto met een bloemtak in zijn hand zit. Op het vierkante deel net onder de buste is het werk gesigneerd met 'DOOR J.D.M.'.
