Lidded goblet

anonymous, c. 1600

The exterior of this cup has been polished to a smooth finish. The interior is decorated with carved medallions that become visible only when the lid is removed and light shines through the wall.

Description
Bokaal met deksel van barnsteen met geëmailleerd gouden montuur. Omgekeerd conische cuppa met half-bolvormige, gelobde bodem. De stam bestaat uit een gestrekte, meloenvormige nodus tussen twee profielen. De onderzijde van de cuppa is omgeven door gewelfde ovalen van barnsteen, met medaillons achter een doorschijnende massa. Daarboven loopt de cuppa, omgeven door twee smalle profielen, geleidelijk wijder uit. Op het gewelfde deksel bevinden zich gouden ovalen. Op een verhoging in het centrum staat een geëmailleerd gouden krijgsman die een vogel op de linkerhand houdt. In het deksel een alliantiewapen: een wit kruis op een rode grond en een donkere ster tussen twee rode manen. Op de welving van de voet, tussen geëmailleerde banden, een reeks van gouden, gebombeerde ovalen met ornamenten in verzonken translucide email. Onder de voet een verzonken portretmedaillon.
