In the 13th and 14th centuries, Islamic glass painted in exuberant colours was popular in Europe and imported in large numbers. It inspired Europeans to make painted decorations with their own motifs, such as this hunting scene. Initially, this technique was used mainly by the glass houses in Venice, but it later spread to the glass centres in Central Europe (Germany and Bohemia).

  • Description

    Ingestoken bodem, gekartelde standring. Vrijwel cylindervormig lichaam met uitgebogen rand. Op het lichaam in wit, zwart, geel, groen, blauw en rose email een everzwijn nagezeten door twee honden, in een schematisch weergegeven landschap met een boom en twee takken. Onder de voorstelling drie biezen, erboven twee rijen witte stippen, en het jaartal 1610. Op c. twee derde van beneden drie noppen gestempeld met een rozetje, één blauw met een wit hart, één rood met een wit hart en één geel met een blauw hart.
