Bartmann (bearded-man) jug with the arms of the Duchy of Jülich-Cleve-Berg

Bartmann jugs owe their name to the bearded faces that were applied as decoration to the necks of these vessels. This one has a head with an unusually long split moustache and beard, with blue accents. These jugs, with or without floral decorations around the body, are a typical product of Cologne.

Description
Kruik (baardmankruik) van steengoed op standvlak met een bolvormig lichaam en smalle nek. Het C-vormige oor is bevestigd aan de nek en de schouder. Profielen op de nek. Bedekt met een bruine engobe en kobaltblauw. Op de buik kleine gedrukte en opgelegde rozetten in reliëf, onderbroken door driemaal een medaillon omgeven door bladeren met daarin het wapen van Gulik-Kleef-Berg. Daartussen twee soortgelijke medaillons met een portret en profil. Op de nek, doorlopend op de schouder en buik, een baardman. Keulen.
