Getting started with the collection:
Cabinet
unknown, c. 1670
The decoration of the cabinet is based on lacquer work from China and Japan. Japanese lacquer was being imported into the Netherlands from the beginning of the 17th century onwards. Almost immediately, craftsmen in Amsterdam and other cities began to imitate it, although the materials to make true lacquer were lacking. Curiously, the decoration of the two doors is symmetrical.
