Border of Needle Lace with Octagonal Rosettes
anonymous, c. 1550 - c. 1625
The earliest needle lace was made by securing guiding threads to a background and building up the patterns with needle and thread. The tight grid of the threads lent itself to a wealth of geometric designs.
