Armchair

anonymous, 1675 - 1700

The rich carvings and colourful fabric of this chair made it one of the most important pieces of seat furniture in a late 17th-century interior. It was therefore placed in the best room of the house, as can be seen in the doll’s house opposite this display case. Such chairs came with a cover to protect the precious upholstery on the back and seat from sunlight and wear.

  • Description

    Armstoel van notenhout, bekleed met wollen trijp. Het meubel heeft geslingerde poten, die door een H-vormig kruis en een voorsport, alle eveneens geslingerd, verbonden zijn. De armleggers rusten op geslingerde armleggerstutten, zijn licht gehold en eindigen in een voluut, die evenals het achterpand met een acanthusblad versierd is. De bekleding vertoont een patroon van grote rode en groene granaten op een grond van geschoren pool. De franje heeft kleine moesjes in rood en geel.
