An Idea (for the Journey)

Edmund de Waal, 2013

The ceramist and writer Edmund de Waal made this work specially for the Rijksmuseum. The two display cases resemble a pair of hanging scroll paintings, or two pages of a book with the rows of porcelain pots as lines of text. At the same time, the white and gold vessels engage in a dialogue with the Chinese and Japanese porcelain on view in the Asian Pavilion.
