Poster for ‘Le Moulin Rouge’

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (mentioned on object), 1891

This is Lautrec’s first, and simultaneously most famous, poster. His talent for drawing on stone (lithography) was fully developed at that time. Depicted are the cabaret’s dancing stars ‘La Goulue’ (The Glutton) and her partner ‘Valentin le Désossé’ (The Boneless One). This poster was acclaimed in the French newspapers and shortly thereafter shown in an avant-garde exhibition in Brussels.
