Poster Étoile du Nord Pullman Paris-Bruxelles-Amsterdam

Adolphe Mouron Cassandre (mentioned on object), 1927

Cassandre produced a poster for the Étoile du Nord, the express train between Paris and Amsterdam. Rather than depicting an actual train, Cassandre devised a perspectival interplay of lines representing switches and rails leading to the horizon. The lines all converge on a white North Star (étoile du nord). This poster established Cassandre’s reputation as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century.
