Bowl with floral scrolls

anonymous, c. 1400 - c. 1599

The elegant floral design on the outside of this bowl features peonies and lotus blooms painted in green, red, and yellow enamels. The enamel has flaked off in several places, indicating that the bowl was once used and was not simply decorative. The scalloped rim follows the pattern of twelve lotus petals on the inside of the vessel.

    Kom van steengoed, beschilderd op het glazuur in rood, groen en goud. Op de buitenwand een band met bloemranken; boven de voet een band met bladmotieven. De binnenwand met een band langwerpige bladmotieven met daarin bloemen of servetwerk. Op de boden een band met bladranken.
