Ishikawa Jōzan, c. 1620 - c. 1670

This imposing calligraphic inscription ‘one thought, three thousand’ references the all-encompassing nature of true insight. Jozan, a renowned scholar, poet, and calligrapher, painted this adage in a distinctive script form, with some brushstrokes resembling the shape of a bird.

    Kalligrafie met monumentale, éénregelige spreuk van vier karakters: '一念三千', ichi nen san zen', 'één gedachte drie duizend'. Zegels: '六六仙洞', 'roku-roku sendō', 'grot van de 36 onsterfelijken', '凹凸窠夫', 'ōtotsu kafu', 'meester van het ruige nest' en '頑仙子', 'gansenshi', 'koppige kluizenaar'. Houten doos met papieren hoes. Opschrift op deksel: '丈山先生之幅', 'Jōzan sensei no fuku', hangrolschildering van meester Jōzan', '壱幅', 'ippuku', 'één rolschildering' ; binnen in deksel: '丁未秋日', 'hinoto-hitsuji aki (no) hi', 'herfstdag, jaar van de Vuur Geit'; '右斎題凾', 'Yūsai daikan', 'doos inscriptie door Yūsai'.
