Weiyi Daoshi (Jap. Uitsu Dōjitsu), 1680

An impeccably ordered and lucidly written text poses the question ‘who is happy wherever he goes?’ and asserts that those with the ability to look beyond everyday responsibilities can feel at home anywhere. Then ‘every landscape you see becomes your kin’.

    Hangrol met een montering van 'kreukelpapier' (揉み紙 momigami) en brokaat, met knoppen van rood lak. Een kalligrafie van een gedicht van de Chinese monnik Weiyi Daoshi: '誰能處處樂其身? 滿眼溪山即我鄰。只此清幽忘管帶，逍遙天外一閒人。', 'Wie kan overal gelukkig zijn? Ieder landschap dat je ziet, is je naaste. Alleen op een plek van rust en schoonheid, kan ik de dagelijkse beslommeringen vergeten en overbodig voor de wereld zijn.'
