Plate

Zhang Cheng, c. 1500 - c. 1600

This plate is shaped like a flower with six petals. Its ornamentation is built up of multiple layers of lacquer, tinted a vibrant red through the addition of iron oxide. The rich crimson colour coupled with deft carving elevates this plate to an opulent luxury product.
