23-cm Segment Shell in a Wooden Box

Een halve overlangs doormidden gezaagde puntvormige 23 cm granaat, in een houten kist. De granaat is 51.8 cm lang en heeft een kaliber van 226 mm. Hij heeft twee ringen bronzen nokken voor een getrokken loop met zes trekkende velden. De neus heeft een buisgat. De granaat is hol: de springlading is omgeven door dertien buiten-segmentringen, waarin negentien binnen-segmentringen, met lood aaneengekit. De ingezette bodem is tevens met loden ringen vastgemaakt.

Entry

One half of a pointed 23-cm shell, cut lengthwise, in a wooden box.

The shell is 51.8 cm long and has a 226 mm calibre. It has studs for a rifled barrel with six grooves. The nose has a fuse hole. The shell is hollow and the compartment for the powder charge is surrounded by thirteen outer segment rings and nineteen inner segment rings, which are welded together with lead. The bottom is also secured with lead rings.

This shell has not been found in British literature on ammunition.
