Description

Maria van Strijp (1627-1707) kwam uit een rijke Haarlemse familie die actief was in de bloeiende textielhandel. De sieraden en de zwarte jurk met veel kant die ze draagt zijn veel kostbaarder dan het schilderij waar ze op staat. De keus om Verspronck haar portret te laten schilderen was snel gemaakt: hij was dé specialist in het weergeven van dure stoffen en juwelen. Pendant van het portret van haar echtgenoot Eduard Wallis (1621-1684, SK-A-4999).
