Inscriptions

  • coat of arms, top left: divided vertically, 1, quartered, i and iv, six gold chevrons on a red field, ii, a diagonal red band on a gold field, iii, two alternately embattled red bands on a gold field; over all an inescutcheon with a white lion on a red field and a black lion on a gold field; 2, a gold portcullis on a red field. Technical notes

The support is a piece of paper, the laid lines of which are visible, which was pasted onto a vertically grained oak plank approx. 0.8 cm thick. The image (17.8 x 13.8 cm) has a border approx. 0.5 cm wide on all sides painted to imitate wood, which continues to the edges. Infrared photography revealed traces of an underdrawing in a dry medium, consisting of stipples and contours. The technique is fairly simple, with the sitter reserved.
