Getting started with the collection:
Partridge-Like Bird
Anselmus Boëtius de Boodt, 1596 - 1610
Until recently, this bird was identified as an unknown raptor. Thanks to the expertise of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, it is now believed to belong to the partridge species. Features such as the red patch around the eyes and the grey striped plumage lend credence to this supposition. Unfortunately, an exact match has not been found in the reference work Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World nor in the collection of mounted specimens in Leiden.
