Rhinoceros
Anselmus Boëtius de Boodt, 1596 - 1610
Around 1600 Anselmus de Boodt compiles several albums for Emperor Rudolf II in which he depicts animals from the imperial menagerie in Prague. While a rhinoceros is missing from this zoo, it nevertheless belongs in these albums which collectively reflect the animal kingdom as it was known at that time. Naturally, De Boodt relies on the image that Dürer had made almost a century earlier.
