Portret van de kunstschilder Anton Mauve

Mauve is frontaal afgebeeld, hij kijkt de beschouwer aan. De bovenkant van zijn pak is met enkele krijtstrepen aangegeven. Witsen gebruikte sterke licht-donkercontrasten. Het licht komt van rechts, valt over het voorhoofd en op het haar, maakt een lichtvlekje op de neus en werpt een sterke schaduw aan de linkerkant van het gezicht.
