I Saltimbanchi (The Acrobats)

Carlo Carrà (signed by artist), 1922

Carlo Carrà co-signed the manifesto of the Italian Futurist painters. In 1912 he took part in the Futurist exhibition in Paris and was represented in the Futurist collection of the Berlin gallerist Herwarth Walden travelling throughout Europe. However, from the outbreak of World War I, Carrà drew on Italian early Renaissance art, which he admired for its stillness and ‘primitive’ quality.
