City Hall Park, New York, 1915

Paul Strand, 1915

Paul Strand’s photographs were shown in New York in 1916 in Camera Work magazine and in Alfred Stieglitz’s 291 gallery. They were immediately deemed new and refreshing; a direct expression of life, objective and ‘straight’ with a focus on the city and everyday life. This image received high praise: ‘wonderfully alive.’
