Weapon rack Cornelis Tromp
anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1679
With this rack of oriental weapons, Admiral Cornelis Tromp demonstrated his hero status at home. He was given the rack in 1680, together with a large number of exotic weapons, by an old friend from Batavia (now Jakarta). Some of the weapons, such as the lances, come from the Japanese island of Tanegashima. Most have a red-lacquered wooden case. Tromp also hung three pairs of fine Dutch pistols on the rack.
